Do you want to be one of the driving forces behind working towards an Aotearoa with no new HIV transmissions and where people living with and affected by HIV flourish?

Burnett Foundation Aotearoa (previously New Zealand AIDS Foundation) has been at the forefront of HIV prevention in Aotearoa for nearly 40 years.

With the same passion as those who have come before us, we’re continuing to work hard to prevent HIV transmission, reduce stigma, and maximise the wellbeing of those most affected. Through our community engagement, behaviour-change marketing campaigns, testing, and therapeutic support services, we reach people across the country.

Burnett Foundation Aotearoa offers the chance to work in a fast-paced, high-performing, and driven team that is committed to biculturalism and is an equal opportunities employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, disability, or age.

Partnerships and Philanthropy Lead

Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

We’re looking for a partnerships and philanthropy expert, in a brand-new role, to both grow our corporate partnerships and be on the ground as we launch our philanthropy programme.

We need someone who can hit the ground running on partnerships and learn and grow with us as we delve into the world of philanthropy.

This is not like any other partnerships and philanthropy role out there - not only is it the only role of this type where you can help to tackle the massive inequities that rainbow and takatāpui communities in Aotearoa New Zealand face, but we argue that you’ll have the most fun doing so.

One day you’ll be working with a corporate partner to bring a large-scale pillow fight to the annual Big Gay Out festival, the next you’ll be meeting with potential donors to help us launch New Zealand-first services to improve the lives of a community that are facing increasing stigma and discrimination, purely for loving who they love.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

This is a unique chance to apply your fundraising expertise to an organisation committed to making a tangible difference. You’ll develop and manage strategic partnerships, lead philanthropy programs, and optimise our grants program to support our mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage partnerships: Create strategies to acquire new partners and nurture existing relationships, for iconic rainbow events like the Big Gay Out and Sweat with Pride.
  • Lead philanthropy programmes: Develop and implement Gifts in Wills and Major Gifts programmes, promoting them and stewarding donors for sustained engagement.
  • Stewardship of Trusts and Foundations: Identify funding bodies, maintain relationships, and support high-quality applications.

He kōrero mōu: About you

We’re looking for a passionate and experienced fundraiser who can:

  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships and philanthropy programs.
  • Demonstrate excellent relationship management and organisational skills.
  • Write compelling proposals and manage the grants programme
  • Work effectively both independently and within a team.

Preferred qualifications and skills:

  • Previous fundraising experience, especially with partnerships and/or philanthropy programmes.
  • Proven experience in securing high-value gifts and/or corporate partnerships
  • Knowledge of grant writing and the grants cycle.
  • Experience with database management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Understanding of HIV, sexual health issues, and specific health issues facing rainbow and takatāpui communities in Aotearoa New Zealand is a plus.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

There are many, many benefits to this role, including but not limited to:

  • One week of additional paid employer holidays on top of the minimum four weeks annual leave and public holidays.
  • A flexible working policy supporting your unique work-life balance needs, including potential for part-time remote work.
  • Competitive starting salary of $86,273 with progression up to $102,706
  • Reimbursement for public transport fares and contribution to the purchase of a bike or micro-mobility device.
  • Reimbursement for home office equipment.
  • Opportunities for professional development.
  • A fun, safe, empowering, and sex-positive work culture.

Tono Mai: Apply Now!

We encourage applications from Takatāpui, people living with HIV, men who have sex with men, Māori, trans and non-binary folks, and/or people from high HIV prevalence countries (our priority populations).

We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or age.

Please get in touch with Francesca at [email protected] if you have any questions.
